Vocal Assessment

After the extensive audition, they called us in to meet with the voice coach for a vocal assessment and to determine which section we would sing in while in the Temple Square Chorale. I was getting over my cold but it was no surprise that the fact I can sing F3 guarantees my spot in the second alto section. It kind of cracks me up since every voice teacher I ever had says I'm a soprano then I get in choirs and it's second alto land.

She also checked the following
  1. Overall Posture
  2. Head/Backbone Alignment
  3. Jaw Alignment
  4. Jaw Tension
  5. Chest Position
  6. Inspiration
  7. Expiration
  8. Vibrato
  9. Vibrato Rate
  10. Size of Tone
  11. Color/Resonance
  12. Onset
  13. Vowel Height
  14. Larynx Position
  15. Tongue Position
  16. Vowel/Lip Formation
  17. Lip Position
  18. Tongue Tension
  19. Facial Position
  20. Facial Expression
  21. Staccato Motion
  22. Marcato Motion
  23. Straight Tone
  24. Vowel Alteration
  25. and Messa di Voce
As you can see from the photo, I was centered and balanced in all areas. Except, I'm on the normal-bright side of resonance (opera training) and the size of my tone is towards "large". (But we all knew I was loud.)
